Prohibited Materials Imported into
China
In March 2000, according to the approval of the SEPA of the P.R. of China,
C.C.I.C. sent a notice regarding the prohibition of importing of the 7th Category
of waste materials which includes:
Waste televisions and kinescopes
Waste refrigerators
Waste air conditioners
Waste microwaves
Waste computers
Waste computer monitors and kinescopes
Waste copying machines
Waste cameras and video cameras
Waste electric pots
Waste video games
Waste wired telephones (exclude disks and pay phones)
Recently, the Chinese Customs has specifically indicated that the above waste
materials, whether their individual parts, or even have been broken down into
pieces, are strictly prohibited to be imported to China. In all circumstances,
if any of the above waste materials are being found, the whole shipment will
be rejected and the parties concerned will be penalized according to the regulations
laid down by the Chinese Customs.
In view of this, we would like to remind once again the parties concerned
to pay great attention to this matter.
Recently, the Chinese Government has continuously discovered that the "electronic
trash" imported to China has caused adverse effects on the environment
and people's health in China.
In view of this, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the
Customs General Administration and the General Administration of the Environmental
Protection of PRC have jointly declared an official notice which specifies
a list of 'prohibited wastes for importing to China' (the 4th batch and 5th
batch) as effective from Aug 15, 2002.
All the parties concerned are advised to pay special attention to this matter.
In case any of the prohibited wastes are found, the China competent authorities
will take serious action on the parties that are responsible
